What does eyelash lamination mean? What does this treatment consist of, and how is it carried out? Let’s discover how it works, what advantages it brings, and its possible contraindications.

What Is Eyelash Lamination?

Lamination (also called Lash Lifting or Lash Filler ) is an aesthetic treatment that has become increasingly successful in recent years and aims to curve and lengthen natural eyelashes in order to open up the gaze and make it magnetic. The actual procedure consists of applying a mix of substances to the eyelashes, including keratin, vitamins, panthenol, and peptides, which have the task of strengthening them and promoting their growth.

After carrying out a treatment of this type, the eyelashes immediately appear thicker and more curved, so much so that, in many cases, it is no longer necessary to use an eyelash curler or mascara. Unlike when false eyelashes are applied, lamination acts on the natural hair and does not require any removal procedure. The first step usually involves a natural perm on the eyelashes, which allows them to be curled, and then a dye based on nourishing substances is applied.

The latter has the task of bringing strength, elasticity, and shine to the eyelashes, making them healthier and, therefore, more beautiful. Furthermore, at the end of this procedure, the eyelashes will appear more curved and tidier. Lamination should be repeated at least three times within a few months so as to encourage the thickening of the natural hair.

What Does An Eyelash Lamination Treatment Consist Of?

How does eyelash lamination work in more detail? The treatment consists of the application of a nourishing product, which is generally based on keratin, which is a substance that is naturally present both in eyelashes and in human hair. Everything is kept in place for a variable amount of time. Here is the step-by-step process :

  1. The first phase involves cleansing the eyelashes and, more generally, the eye, which must be very thorough. It is preferable to remove all traces of make-up first and not wear contact lenses ;
  2. With a specific comb, the eyelashes are tidied up so as to give them an orderly and uniform appearance;
  3.  Silicon pads are applied, i.e., silicone pads which have the task of isolating the eyelashes from the rest of the eye and the eyelid;
  4. Proceed to curl the eyelashes by applying a particular product  and leaving it to act for a few minutes;
  5. Then, a mix of hydrating, nourishing, and strengthening substances is applied, which have the task of making the eyelashes more robust. Hyaluronic acid, silk proteins, and panthenol are usually used;
  6. The tint is applied to make the eyelashes more evident;
  7. Finally, we proceed to fix everything using specific nourishing oils that have the task of opening the scales of the eyelashes to allow the treatment to penetrate deeply, as well as improving the curvature;
  8. Remove the silicon pads and proceed to comb the eyelashes with the appropriate mascara brush.

An essential precaution is to not apply products to the eyelashes for 24 hours after the end of the session, not to get them wet, and, preferably, to sleep on your stomach. Steam treatments, showers, spray tanning on the face, saunas, swimming pools, and hydromassage tubs are therefore prohibited. An eyelash lamination session lasts about an hour, and the results are visible for up to two months, provided you carry out at least four treatments over time. As for the costs of eyelash lamination, they are around 60-80 euros per session.

The Advantages Of Eyelash Lamination

Once the various steps of the treatment have been clarified in detail, what are its advantages, and what is eyelash lamination really used for? Generally, it is performed to obtain healthier, more robust eyelashes and, consequently, also shinier, longer, and thicker ones. Once the first session has been carried out, the eyelashes will appear tidier, more curved, and tidier, so much so that many people usually abandon the habit of using eyelash curlers and mascara.

The strengths of Lash Lifting are numerous; in fact, the objective of this procedure is to guarantee nourished, more defined, longer, and thicker eyelashes. In particular, eyelash lamination is recommended for those with the following:

  1. Eyelashes that grow excessively straight or point downwards so as to open up the gaze and make it more magnetic;
  2. those with particularly sparse and barely visible eyelashes ;
  3. If the eyelashes are dry, weak, and brittle,
  4. Those who have untidy eyelashes or ones that grow across each other ;
  5. If the eyelashes are fragile and not very curved or, on the contrary, for those who are too stiff and long;
  6. For those who are taking a break from extensions  and want a treatment that strengthens and intensely nourishes their eyelashes,
  7. For those who want to abandon eyelash curlers and mascara,
  8. For those who love the natural effect and don’t often use mascara,

Once a series of lamination sessions have been carried out, the eyelashes will naturally appear more curved, tidy, and long, as if they were always made up; furthermore, the laminated eyelashes that have also undergone the dyeing process will be much more visible, almost as if they had been made up with mascara.

Contraindications To Eyelash Lamination

Eyelash lamination is a treatment that has no particular contraindications. In most cases, the only side effect following the procedure is a slight irritation of the eyelid, which disappears within 24 hours. There are, however, some categories of people who should avoid it or, before undergoing it, should ask their doctor for advice. These include:

  1. pregnant women ;
  2. people with eye diseases ;
  3. if you have  an eye infection  (such as if you suffer from conjunctivitis);
  4. if you are breastfeeding ;
  5. if you are in menopause ;
  6. in the presence of particular allergies or hypersensitivity to some ingredients;

Those who are predisposed to allergies or are hypersensitive to certain substances should pay particular attention and always opt for treatments offered by professionals. It is, in fact, possible to perform do-it-yourself eyelash lamination using one of the numerous kits on the market; however, given that it is a procedure that requires a lot of precision and involves the use of particular components, it is advisable to prefer a beauty center specialist who uses specific products for lamination.
